How to grow an air plant

So I recently discover this little green thing called Air plants. I believe it was from pinterest when I first saw it. I thought to myself, it is such a strange little plant that just live off of air (no soil required). So I did a little bit of research and found out that they are actually plants grown on trees in forrest where it is very humid. However, it seems to be ok if owner just leave them in household and just give it some water from time to time. It doesn’t seem to need anything else like soil or anything to mount on. It is believe that different species of air plant has different life span that range from 3 to 8 years.

So why are Air plants such a good home decor?

Haha, for someone like me who doesn’t have green fingers, air plants are probably the best way to go if you want to have some kind of living plants in your house. I mean succulents are probably the next best plants to have in a house hold (which would be my next topic!), but in the meantime lets focus on air plants.

The air plant I have requires such little care. I have hear different methods to water them, so I tried out both anyways. I tried to water it every other day, and I also tried to soak it into water for 1/2 hour once a week. I mean both are ok depending how dry your house is. I live in a condo, so the AC are almost on all the time. But that doesn’t seem to bother the airplant. Anyways, another good thing about air plants is that it can fit anywhere. It can lie anywhere and grow on its own. It can be on your computer desk, kitchen, dining table, coffee table, (even in the washroom? its humid enough haha), but the point is it can be anywhere!

For myself, I like to give my airplant a little decoration. So I bought a geometric terrarium (which is very popular at the moment). Having a geometric terrarium is probably the easiest way to make your home look chic! The one I got is from urban outfitter for $20. To add to it, I love colourful natural stone / crystals. These stones and seashells I got from my trip back in Okinawa, Japan. I think they are perfect for my air plant, simple yet unique with my own style!

So does it make you want a air plant? Mine costed about $5.99 and I just got another one with a little bloom to it. I look forward to see how it will grow and I will update you too!

In the mean time, have fun with your air plants!
